FAQ
Epoxy Flooring Questions, Answered
Everything you wanted to know about garage epoxy, metallic floors, concrete coatings and the install process.
How long does epoxy flooring last?+
A professionally installed epoxy or polyaspartic floor system from Rocket City Epoxy Floors typically lasts 15–20+ years in residential garages and 10–15 years in heavy commercial environments. Longevity depends on the system thickness, surface prep quality and traffic. Our multi-coat systems with proper concrete grinding far outlast big-box DIY kits, which usually fail within 1–3 years in Huntsville's humid climate.
How much does epoxy flooring cost in Huntsville?+
Most residential garage epoxy projects in Huntsville range from $5–$12 per square foot depending on the system: standard flake epoxy, premium polyaspartic, or designer metallic. A typical 2-car garage runs $1,800–$3,500 fully installed. We provide free, transparent on-site estimates with no high-pressure sales.
Is epoxy flooring slippery?+
Pure epoxy can be slick when wet, which is why we broadcast a non-slip aggregate or polymer flake into the topcoat on every Huntsville installation. The result is a textured, slip-resistant surface that still cleans easily with a mop.
How long is installation?+
Most residential garage installations are completed in 1–2 days. You can typically walk on the floor after 24 hours and park vehicles after 72 hours. Commercial projects are scheduled to minimize downtime, often performed nights or weekends.
Can epoxy be installed over old concrete?+
Yes — older concrete is one of our specialties. We diamond-grind the surface to open the pores, repair cracks and spalling with polymer fillers, then apply a moisture-tolerant primer. This is critical in Huntsville, where vapor transmission from the soil can cause cheaper coatings to peel.
Do you offer warranties?+
Yes — every Rocket City Epoxy Floors residential installation includes a 15-year written warranty against peeling, delamination and hot-tire pickup. Commercial systems carry warranties tailored to the specified system.
What's the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?+
Epoxy is a thicker, body-building basecoat. Polyaspartic is a UV-stable, fast-curing topcoat that won’t yellow in sunlight and cures in hours instead of days. Our standard system uses both — epoxy for build, polyaspartic for protection.
Will you install over an existing coating?+
Sometimes. We can recoat over a sound, well-bonded existing system after grinding and bonding-primer application. If the existing coating is failing, the most reliable approach is full removal and re-prep, which we also handle.
Do you do basement floors?+
Yes. We use moisture-tolerant primers and breathable systems specifically designed for basements and slabs in contact with the ground.
How do I prepare for installation day?+
Just clear the space. We handle all grinding, dust containment (HEPA vacuums), prep, repairs and cleanup. You'll have a clean, finished floor when we leave.
